Holly Hunter, an American actor and producer, is renowned for her performances in movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano earned her an Oscar. The talented actress began her career as an actor by performing on stage, by performing in a myriad of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. It has always been her obsession. When she was in fifth grade, she portrayed Helen Keller in an original production. The mumps that she contracted left her deaf and blind in one ear, but she did not allow this hinder her progress as an actor. While in college, she took classes in theatre and later moved from Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania, to New York City in pursuit of her dreams. Hunter was trapped in an elevator with playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They worked together to write Broadway Crimes of the Heart in which Hunter made her Broadway debut. Following her move into Los Angeles she tried to find film roles, and was able to secure the role of a co-star in Swing Shift. In the three decades since she was a part of the film, Holly Hunter has been involved in numerous TV shows and movies. Holly Hunter won a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as her Women in Film Lucy Award.
